Mattahorn is an eye-catching experimental pepper created by Matt of Matt’s Peppers, combining two exceptionally distinctive parents: Mattapeño × Thunder Mountain Longhorn. The goal brings together the dramatic foliage and striped-fruit genetics associated with Mattapeño with the elongated pod characteristics of Thunder Mountain Longhorn.

Plants can be spectacular even before the first pepper appears. One of the traits to watch for is unusually pale or white variegated foliage, inherited through the Mattapeño side of the cross. As the season progresses, plants may produce slender, elongated peppers with attractive striping and other variations in color and form. This is the kind of pepper that gives growers something interesting to inspect every time they walk through the garden.

An Important Note About Stability

Mattahorn was originally released by Matt’s Peppers as an F4 breeding line, meaning it was still relatively early in the stabilization process. Our Mattahorn seed should therefore be considered experimental and still stabilizing rather than a completely fixed variety. Growers may encounter differences between plants in foliage coloration, variegation, pod length, striping, plant habit, and other characteristics.
