Created by American pepper breeder Jay Weaver of Pennsylvania, Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion, often abbreviated JPGS, has become a modern classic among superhot pepper collectors. Developed from a cross between Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) and Trinidad Scorpion, it brings together two legendary Capsicum chinense bloodlines in a pepper known for extreme heat, bizarre pod shapes, and beautiful peach coloration.

The fruits are unmistakably superhot in appearance. Pods are elongated to irregularly contorted, with heavily wrinkled and blistered skin, and some develop pronounced pointed or scorpion-like tails. They begin green and mature through lighter shades before developing their characteristic peach to salmon coloration.

Flavor carries characteristics associated with its Ghost Pepper ancestry, with fruity and floral notes beneath an enormous amount of heat. The burn is particularly intense and can continue building after the initial bite, making this a pepper intended for experienced superhot growers and consumers.

Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion is commonly reported at approximately 800,000–1,100,000 Scoville Heat Units. As with many specialty superhots, actual pungency can vary considerably with genetics and growing conditions.

An interesting part of JPGS history is that seeds reportedly entered circulation while some lines were still in relatively early generations. As a result, growers may encounter variation in pod shape and other characteristics among different circulating selections.
